We exist because the skills gap is real and generic training isn't fixing it.

AEC Labs was built specifically for the Australian AEC market, not adapted from a global template. Everything we do is shaped by what Australian firms actually need from offshore professionals working on their projects.

Why AEC Labs was built

Australia's AEC sector is in the middle of an unprecedented infrastructure build. The domestic professional pipeline cannot keep up, not because of a shortage of intent, but because the structural constraints of graduate supply, migration timelines, and professional development cycles are just too slow for where demand has gone.

Offshore hiring is the logical response. Firms across Australia are already doing it at scale: architecture practices, engineering consultancies, construction managers, interior designers. But "offshore hiring" has a quality problem. Without a standard, without a way to verify that an offshore professional has actually been trained to Australian conventions, every hire is a risk.

AEC Labs was founded to create that standard. We build the curriculum, run the training, issue the certificates, and verify the credentials. We're not a recruitment agency, not a generic learning platform, not a bootcamp. We're a specialist certification body, the only one of its kind built specifically around the Australian AEC market.

Our goal is straightforward: Australian firms should be able to hire certified offshore talent with confidence, and offshore professionals should have a verifiable way to demonstrate their Australian market competency. We make that possible.

"There are courses that teach Revit. There are courses that teach documentation. There was nothing that taught Revit the way it's actually used on an Australian project: to Australian standards, with Australian conventions, for Australian clients. That's the gap we're filling."

Four things we do differently

Australian standards, not global averages

Every module is built around how Australian projects actually run: AS/NZS drawing standards, NCC compliance, Rawlinsons pricing databases, Australian project management workflows. Not a global course with "Australia" added to the title.

Verifiable credentials

Every certificate carries a unique code verifiable at aeclabs.com.au/validate. Firms can confirm a candidate's certification in seconds. No login, no guesswork. The credential is permanent and public.

AI-ready curriculum

With Claude MCP integration for Revit (April 2026) and Revit 2027's native MCP architecture confirmed, the professional toolkit has changed. Our curriculum reflects current tools, not the tools of three years ago.

Direct to Australian firms

AEC Labs connects certified graduates to Australian firms actively seeking certified talent. Not a generic job board, but a direct pathway from certification to employment with firms who know exactly what the certification means.

For Graduates

If you're an offshore professional working with or seeking to work with Australian AEC firms, AEC Labs certification is the clearest signal you can send. It tells firms you've been trained to their standards, not a global standard that may or may not translate.

  • Stand out in a competitive market for offshore AEC roles
  • Demonstrate verified competency in Australian standards
  • Your profile listed in the Graduate Registry, visible to Australian firms
  • Progress through Foundation → Professional → Advanced
  • Get a permanent, publicly verifiable credential

The certification authority model

AEC Labs is the certification authority: we set the standard, partners deliver the training, firms trust the credential. Three functions, one system.

01

Standards

We set them.

AEC Labs defines the competency framework: what an offshore professional must know and demonstrate to work on Australian AEC projects. The standards are built against Australian industry conventions, not international averages, and are reviewed by our Standards Review Committee each year.

02

Certification

We verify it.

Candidates, whether enrolled through an accredited training partner or nominated by their employer, are assessed against the AEC Labs standard. Pass the assessment and the credential is issued. The certification is verifiable at aeclabs.com.au/validate, no account required, with an instant result.

03

Registry

We maintain it.

Every issued certificate is recorded in the AEC Labs public registry. Firms can search by name or certificate code and see certified status, specialisation, and certification level in seconds. The registry is the authoritative record. There is no other source of truth.

Built on the international model for personnel certification

AEC Labs is structured around the ISO/IEC 17024 framework, the international standard for bodies that certify persons. This is the same model used by PMI (Project Management Institute), CompTIA, and other globally recognised certification authorities.

ISO/IEC 17024 defines requirements for impartiality, competence of assessors, validity of assessments, and maintenance of certification records. Operating within this framework means our credentials are structured to be trusted, not just useful.

AEC Labs is currently on the ISO/IEC 17024 accreditation pathway. Our assessment methodology, appeals process, and Standards Review Committee governance are all designed to meet the standard from day one, not retrofitted later.

Impartial: training partners do not control certification outcomes
Competence-based: assessed against defined, published criteria
Verifiable: public registry, permanent record, no expiry on verification
Appeals-supported: formal process for assessment disputes

Standards Review Committee

AEC Labs certification standards are not written in isolation. The Standards Review Committee is composed of industry experts from architecture, engineering, and construction: working practitioners who know what Australian firms actually require from the professionals they hire.

The committee meets annually to review the competency framework, assess whether the assessment methodology remains current, and approve any changes to certification criteria. Committee decisions are published in the AEC Labs Standards Register.

Annual review of competency standards against industry requirements
Approval of curriculum changes and new certification tracks
Oversight of assessment methodology and impartiality
Representation from architecture, engineering, and construction sectors
Committee composition
Architecture representative
Practising architect, Australian projects and documentation standards
Engineering representative
Senior engineer, structural, civil or building services disciplines
Construction representative
Project manager or estimator, Australian delivery environment
BIM & Digital representative
BIM manager: Revit, coordination workflows, digital delivery
Committee members are appointed for two-year terms. Positions are filled by industry nomination. No committee member may represent an accredited training partner.

Three values, no exceptions.

Australian Market Focus

We do one thing and we do it specifically. Not global. Not generic. Every curriculum decision, every assessment, every partnership is made with one question: does this reflect what Australian firms actually need?

Continuous Improvement

The tools change. The standards evolve. The market moves. We update our curriculum quarterly, not annually. If Revit 2027 ships with native MCP in Q1, our modules reflect that by Q2. That's not a nice-to-have. It's our core commitment.

Real Certification

A certificate from AEC Labs means something because it requires passing a real assessment at a real standard. We don't sell badges. We don't issue certificates for attendance. Pass the assessment, earn the credential. That's the rule and it doesn't change.
